The Piedmont Bioethics Network
Our mission statement and goals, found elsewhere on this site, provide important information about ourselves. They indicate that we are a group of people committed to assisting health care providers in the Piedmont provide high quality ethics services. Accomplishing this mission will involve providing educational opportunities for health care providers and the community at large, consultation services, policy sharing, as well as evaluating and responding to relevant public policies.
Our mission and goals tell only part of the story, however. We are a young organization. Following several months of preparation and discussion the Piedmont Bioethics Network was formed on February 26, 1998 by representatives from Baptist and Forsyth Hospitals in Winston-Salem, Moses Cone in Greensboro and High Point Regional in High Point. We are in the process of incorporating as a non-profit organization, raising our first budget, planning our first educational event and getting the word out about our existence. We are, also like most youngsters, enthusiastic about the prospects for our future and convinced of the need for a group like the network.
We are in interdisciplinary group. Our Board of Directors currently is made up of representatives from the four founding institutions, as well as Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden , NC. The members of the board truly represent an interdisciplinary team made up of physicians from a variety of medical specialties, nurses, chaplains and academics. Each brings particular perspectives and experiences that enrich moral reflection and deliberation.
We are an open group. We invite individuals and organizations who share our goals to join with us (details are available elsewhere on this web page). While our Board is currently made up of representatives from hospitals, we have had inquiries as well from area Hospices and other health care providers. We still have openings on our board and welcome others to join us and add to our strengths.
