Recently, Leanne Groban, MD, Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology has been reaping the fruits of her labor. In April, her review article “Diastolic Dysfunction in the Old Heart” appeared in the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia. In June, she received a $1000 prize for her abstract “Estrogen Depletion Exacerbates Diastolic Dysfunction in the Salt-Sensitive Hypertensive Female mRen(2).Lewis Strain” at the 13th Annual Congress on Women’s Health. In the past year Dr. Groban has been awarded two grants; the most recent from the Paul B. Beeson Career Development Awards in Aging Research Program for her grant entitled “Growth Hormone, Angiotensin-II, and Cardiac Aging.” Of receiving this reward Groban says, “Over the past four years I have sacrificed a lot of personal time to achieve this goal, and it is very rewarding to have such a successful outcome. I am grateful for the support of my colleagues and mentors. However, I do realize that there’s a ton of work ahead.” Look for more of her work in upcoming issues of Chest and the Journal of Gerontology. More on Dr. Groban’s Paul B. Beeson Award.
