On Sept. 1, 2006, the Dean of Wake Forest University Medical Center formally recognized the J. Paul Sticht Center on Aging and Rehabilitation as a university-wide center.  This is significant, and it underscores the importance of a collaborative approach to both clinical care of older adults and research regarding the process of aging.  The mission of the Sticht Center on Aging is to promote the health and independence of older adults by fostering multi-disciplinary collaboration in basic and clinical research, research training, professional education and community outreach.  These programs bring together the talents of more than 40 faculty members from 14 departments, institutes and centers.  The Sticht Center houses two major affiliate programs:  The Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center and the Kulynych Center for Memory and Cognition Research.  Aging research at Wake Forest is broad-based and well supported and includes more than 30 federally-funded investigator initiated grants, four research training awards, and one program project grant.  We invite you to peruse the different areas of this site to learn of the significant research and clinical contributions of the J. Paul Sticht Center –Director, Stephen B. Kritchevsky, Ph.D., and Clinical Director, Jeff Williamson, M.D., M.S.
