If you are a physician and would like to refer a patient, please call us at 336-716-4131. Or, call our Physician's Access Line, a physician-to-physician only hotline, at 800-277-7654.
The Physician's Access Line (PAL®) is a toll-free service provided by Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center to practicing physicians throughout North Carolina and the Medical Center's extended service and referral area. The toll-free number, 800-277-7654, or 716-7654 locally, is a physician-to-physician only hotline that puts you in touch with one of our Expediters who will connect you with the full-time faculty physician of your choice, or with another specialist in that discipline.
PAL is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by Expediters specially trained to assist you. Its primary objective is to enhance the "shared care" of referred patients by facilitating ongoing communication between The Medical Center faculty physicians and practicing physicians.
Physicians can use PAL for a variety of services, including:
● Professional consultation with a specific physician or a faculty physician in a specific specialty or subspecialty.
● To arrange emergency air or ground patient transfers to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
● To arrange the referral of a patient to a specialist in the Medical Center.
● To obtain evaluation and progress reports for patients referred to the Medical Center.
● To provide answering service for various community physicians and internal Medical Center departments.
● To obtain updates on drug therapies and medical procedures or treatments.
● To inquire about, or make a reservation for, continuing education programs.
● To remain informed about the referred patient's condition and any discharge plans.
● To serve as the statewide bed locator service for The Statewide Perinatal Network for neonatal intensive care infants and for laboring mothers.
PAL was designed by physicians for physicians.
