Technology
Wake Forest University School of Medicine has been a leader in technology integration in medical education for several years. Each student is issued a laptop computer then a handheld computing device in the clinical education years. The complete curriculum schedule, event and material necessary for course study is posted to the Web-based eWake system. Each lecture is digitally recorded by a student administered system, making the audio recording available to all within minutes of the lecture's completion.

Academic Computing Support Team
The Office of Academic Computing was established in summer 1998 to support the vast technology presence in the curriculum. The staff devoted to education initiatives is comprised of four software developers, three technical support analysts and two server administrators. Hardware and software support is available to the students during weekdays. The programming staff is responsible for building and maintaining the various systems that support medical doctorate studies, evaluation systems, bulletin boards, clinical applications, accreditation systems and assessment. more
Ubiquitous Always On Network
The backbone of all the education related information systems is the ubiquitous high-speed networking infrastructure at WFUBMC. Great lengths have been taken to ensure network access is available in all teaching locations either via wireless access or hard wired Ethernet ports. Every teaching room has network access in either wireless or wired form.
Digital Age Learning Aids
During the clinical years, students are issued a personal digital assistant with various tools to aid in the student's learning. These tools include a pharmaceutical reference, medical dictionary, medical calculator and secure access to patient record systems for lab and other test results.
