Rosenbaum_Daryl_RegularThe Director of the Wake Forest University Sports Medicine Unit Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship is Daryl A. Rosenbaum, M.D.  Dr. Rosenbaum is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine.  He finished his family medicine residency at Oregon Health Sciences University, and completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship at Wake Forest University.  He holds board certification in Family Medicine and a certificate of added qualification in Sports Medicine.  Dr. Rosenbaum previously served as team physician at Western Carolina University for four years, while in private practice in the mountains of North Carolina. 


Thornton_Heath_RegularHeath C. Thornton, M.D., Assistant Professor in Family Medicine & Sports Medicine serves as the Associate Director of the Fellowship.  Dr. Thornton completed his family medicine residency at Riverside Hospital in Newport News, VA, and completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship at Wake Forest University.  Dr. Thornton is board certified in Family Medicine and a CAQ in Sports Medicine.  

 


Panea_Oana_RegularOana Panea, M.D., Assistant Professor in Sports Medicine. Dr. Oana Panea completed her family medicine residency and completed her Sports Medicine Fellowship at Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University.  

 

   


Martin_David_RegularOur faculty is a diverse group of health care professionals including fellowship-trained Orthopedic & Sports Surgeon David F. Martin M.D.  Dr. Martin is an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and serves as the Director of the Wake Forest University Sports Medicine Unit.                                                                                                                                                

 


Ferguson_Cristin_RegularCristin M. Ferguson, M.D. joined the Sports Medicine Unit in 2005 and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.  She is a team physician for Wake Forest University and Winston-Salem State University.
 

 
  

 

Our faculty also includes a number of orthopedic surgeons with other subspecialty expertise in hand, foot, pediatrics, trauma, and oncology. Our Pediatrics faculty includes another member of the Wake Forest Sports Medicine team, Daniel P. Krowchuk, M.D., who is fellowship-trained in adolescent medicine.
 
Other faculty include the Ph.Ds and exercise physiologists of the Department of Health and Exercise Science at WFU, certified athletic trainers, physical therapists, nutritionists, a Pharm.D., behavioral psychologists, and radiologists. The fellowship is sponsored by the Department of Family & Community Medicine at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
