Dental Clinical Facilities
As of June 1999, the Department of Dentistry affiliated with a national dental management services organization to insure the capital and business expertise for the future growth of dentistry at the Medical Center.
The group practice is now organized under the structure of University Dental Associates, Raymond Garrison, DDS, PA, a professional association, and all faculty and residents conduct their clinical practice within the structure of University Dental Associates. This hybrid model has worked very well for the Department of Dentistry in its conduct of the 2-year General Practice Residency Program.
The residency program uses dental clinical facilities in 2 locations at the Medical Center. For hospital dental services, a well-equipped facility is available in North Carolina Baptist Hospital, and for community-based dental services, a modern 10,000-square-foot facility is available in the Medical Center’s CompRehab Plaza. This facility is an excellent site for the multidisciplinary practice of dentistry where the dental resident works as an integral part of a multi-specialty group practice.
The clinical practice environment is a busy and accountable model with about 30,000 outpatient visits per year and affords the resident opportunity for broad-based clinical experience and important practice management education. The academic and administrative offices of the Department occupy an additional 2,400 square feet with office space allocated to each dental resident.
