Education
The TSI Educational Programs are designed to foster advances in human health by recruiting, educating and nurturing health professionals and researchers in different disciplines.
We envision a generation of researchers who have strong content expertise in their chosen areas of methodology or science and the multidisciplinary perspective required to apply their knowledge and expertise to the collaborative opportunities presented by the complex biological, environmental, social, and political influences on population health. Our programs instill understanding of a common language of scientific discovery and key skills in team science. We believe scientists whose disciplinary expertise is complemented by training in multidisciplinary team science will contribute greatly to the rapid translation of new knowledge into improvements in population health.
The TSI offers a number of educational opportunities designed for clinical and translational research trainees. Take a moment to explore the links below which outline translational degree and certificate options.

MEDICAL STUDENT and UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
The TSI offers clinical and translational research experiences for minority and non-minority undergraduate and medical student trainees interested in careers in clinical and translational research. Students can spend the summer in a research intensive environment with complementary and individualized workshops, journal clubs and seminars designed to both introduce participants to careers in biomedical sciences and to strengthen the knowledge of undergraduates of the necessary academic, GRE/MCAT and research credentials to facilitate their entry into the programs of their choice.
Two highly competitive undergraduate students will be chosen from among applicants to the Summer Research Opportunities Program and the Excellence in Cardiovascular Sciences Program for Minority Students to participate in a translational research experience with established teams of TSI investigators in the summer of 2010. TSI sponsorship includes travel, lodging, and stipends.

Medical Student Research Program Summer Fellowship
The TSI supports summer research experiences for medical students. Fellowships are awarded each year on a competitive basis. Applicants are required to submit a short research proposal including specific aims, background and literature review, and how the student will contribute to the research project. In return, awardees receive stipend support for the summer and access to a structured research experience to help build toward a career in clinical and translational science. Students complete a 10 week research session which includes regular meetings with a designated faculty mentor, weekly research related seminar sessions, and poster presentation of the research conducted as the student’s final project.
