About Interventional Radiology
The Vascular and Interventional Section consists of 7 CAQ-eligible or certified interventional radiology faculty members. The ancillary staff of the department includes 1 physician assistant, 12 nurses and 15 technologists.
The facility has 5 dedicated angiographic interventional suites as well as a treatment room and a PICC suite. Three, including 1 biplane interventional neuroradiology room, have state-of-the-art Siemens equipment.
The other 2 rooms, currently 1 GE room and 1 Philips room, will be upgraded within the next 18 months, 1 to a biplane Neuro-angiography suite and the other to a combined Angio-CT suite. All labs have dedicated US with an ATL, Sonosite or Accuson machine.
A recently constructed dedicated IR clinic is in place with 4 examining rooms. The clinic is staffed with 2 dedicated secretaries and a coordinator. The clinic includes a patient waiting area and a physician workroom. The clinic is adjacent to the angiography suites for easy access. Planning for a free-standing outpatient IR facility is underway.
The department has recently begun to provide Interventional Services at a 125-bed hospital in an adjacent county, approximately 45 minutes west, in a state-of-the-art angiographic suite. We look at this practice as providing for the growth of vascular interventions and of training in that discipline.
