April Howard                                                               

 

April Howard RN, CCRN, CCRC is Clinical Research Coordinator for the Section on Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC.  She is currently responsible for the daily operation of clinical trials in the areas of sepsis, acute lung injury, and ARDS including NHLBI funded ARDS NET research.  Prior to joining the research group at Wake Forest, Ms. Howard in the past 24 years has held the position of staff nurse in both adult, pediatric, and neonatal  Intensive care units, as Clinical Manager for Medical Intensive Care, Allergy-Immunology Clinic, and Project Manager for Pulmonary/Critical Care Research.  She has been directly involved in clinical research for the past 14 years.  A member of American Thoracic Society, American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, Association of Research Professionals, and Society of Critical Care Medicine where she is currently the Chair of the Nursing Section.  Also maintains a position on the Ethics Committee of both the Society of Critical Care Medicine and for the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, as well as the ICU Design and Nursing Research Committees with SCCM.  Ms. Howard is a frequent speaker for AACN groups regarding sepsis, ARDS, and critical care issues.
