Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center’s section on Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Immunological Diseases offers you the largest number of test and treatment options in Western North Carolina. These options include:
- Diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopies
- Interventional bronchoscopy
- Allergy skin testing for pollens, indoor allergens and foods
- Allergy blood testing
- Allergy immunotherapy (shots)
- Spirometry (breathing tests)
- Bronchoprovocation challenge
- Exercise testing
- Oral challenges for food and drug allergy
- Desensitization for drug allergy
- Intravenous (and subcutaneous) immune globulin infusion
- Patch testing for contact dermatitis and delayed hypersensitivity reactions
- Counseling on the use of inhaled medications

- CPAP (continous positive airway pressure). CPAP is a machine that blows air into your nose via a nose mask, keeping the airway open and unobstructed.
- BiPAP titrations. The Bi-level machine is different in that it blows air at two different pressures. When a person inhales, the pressure is higher and in exhaling, the pressure is lower.
