Acting Internship
Why Do An Acting Internship?
Is it necessary to do a one-month acting internship to successfully match with our program? No. However, if you are in a similar position as outlined under MS-4, doing one could be greatly to your benefit.
Obviously, it is not feasible (and there is not enough time) to do externships at all of the institutions at which you think you would like to match. Start early (there it is again!) to collect information about the various programs and their requirements. Based upon the materials you have received, the suggestions of your advisor, and comments you may have heard from the senior class orthopaedic hopefuls, try to determine which program would be your top choice, second, and so-on. These are schools to contact regards AIs. Because of scheduling conflicts, you may not be able to get your first choice, but at least this is a method to help narrow down the selection to a more manageable size.
Why do an AI? It gives you the window of opportunity enjoyed by our own students: you become a known entity. You are no longer just a name on a few pieces of paper; you become a real, living, breathing person. Wherever you go for your externship, use that time to show the program what you can do. Be prepared (and willing) to work hard. How you "fit" in a program can be just as important as your numbers.
