Other Agreements
Industry Relations provides review and assistance with other industry-related agreements. Some examples include fellowships, non-CME conference grants, unrestricted grants, travel grants and laboratory services agreements. For each of these arrangements, please provide a route form and the proposed agreement to Industry Relations along with background information applicable to the arrangement. If Industry Relations has questions on the proposed agreement, questions will be provided to the PI. Otherwise, Industry Relations will review, negotiate and approve the agreements as appropriate under institutional policies and requirements, as well as all fiscal and regulatory requirements.
Typically, Industry Relations handles all incoming subcontracts for non-federal and non-foundation supported arrangements, as well as all outgoing subcontracts with industry funding. Subcontracts under certain programs, such as the SBIR/STTR programs are considering federal dollars, not industry dollars. As such, these are handled by Grants Administration.
Industry Relations does not review nor negotiate personal consulting agreements. This type of arrangement is negotiated personally by the faculty member. It is recommended that the faculty member seek an attorney’s advice for all such agreements to make sure that they are in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Faculty members are not authorized to sign any consulting agreement that conflicts with their obligations as a faculty member, that obligates the institution or that gives up any rights of the institution. If a faculty member wishes to discuss how a proposed consulting arrangement may conflict with his/her research arrangements, Industry Relations can provide information to assist with this review.
If you do not know whether Industry Relations would be the office that reviews a particular agreement, please contact the office and provide a short summary of the type of arrangement involved, and we can assist you with making that determination.
