The primary focus of the Office of Research is to facilitate funding and education for basic and clinical research activities. Our office supports interdisciplinary research throughout the Medical Center and University by providing support for obtaining sponsored research funds and managing sponsored program activity.

All applications for extramural funding must be approved by the Office of Research prior to submission. The Proposal Review and Certification Form is used for this purpose. Requirements for institutional approval are available via this site.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Office of Research is to promote, foster and sustain the highest quality research within The Medical Center. To fulfill this purpose, the office supports basic and clinical research endeavors through initiation, coordination and analysis; initiates training and career development of faculty and staff; assists in the transfer of scientific discoveries of the faculty to the commercial sector for public and economic benefit; assures employees, students, patients and visitors of a safe environment through compliance with government regulations and good safety practices; provides a program that assures humane animal care and use that meets or exceeds the highest national standards; educates the public about the value of the research enterprise; and promotes The Medical Center regionally, nationally and internationally.

In carrying out these responsibilities, the office staff demonstrates a strong commitment to exceptional service and the highest professional and ethical standards to assure the integrity of the research effort.

Vision Statement

The Office of Research will advance the research enterprise of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine by maintaining the highest levels of scholarship, merit and integrity and actively supporting faculty, fellows, staff and students in the conceptualization, implementation and completion of research. The Office will accelerate the pace of quality research by fostering collaboration between investigators, promoting innovation, and assuring adherence to ethical and regulatory standards. Our primary goals are the continued success of the School as an internationally valued biomedical research resource and high faculty achievement and satisfaction.
