Shared Governance
Shared Governance is an innovative organizational framework which affords nurses professional autonomy. It empowers the professional nursing staff and managers to contribute collectively to the decision-making process related to patient care, nursing practice and the work environment.
Philosophy
Professional nurses recognize the importance of the NCBH Mission Statement and the 5 key values (Excellence, Compassion, Innovation, Integrity and Collegiality) and incorporate them in the delivery of nursing care. We believe that the patient is the central focus of all nursing activities and decision-making.
Nurses, in the environment where Shared Governance is practiced, create an atmosphere in which optimal patient care will be nurtured and enhanced through professional accountability, and support the American Nurses Association Bill of Rights for registered nurses.
Professional nurses accept accountability for outcomes-based individualized nursing care and professional self development, as well as the ethical and legal responsibilities involved in nursing practice. Shared Governance is based on the principles of individual professional accountability and responsibility for collective decision-making.
Governance Councils
There are 5 house-wide councils:
The house-wide councils support the units’ ability to contribute to collective decision-making at the unit level, and provide leadership and support for global or house-wide practices.
