UNIVERSITY AND MEDICAL CENTER

Living in the University community blends the stimulation of a challenging academic environment with a full schedule of arts, sports and entertainment, all set in the lush rolling terrain of Piedmont North Carolina. With admissions standards among the highest four percent in the United States, the best and brightest comprise the Wake Forest student body. According to a recent nationwide evaluation, Wake Forest ranks as the top university in its class in the southeast and in the top 25 nationwide. The College, Graduate School, and law and business schools are located on the wooded Reynolda Campus, the former estate of tobacco magnate R. J. Reynolds. The medical school, which is a partner with the Baptist Hospital Medical Center, is located approximately three miles away on the 45-acre Bowman Gray Campus. In addition to these two University sites, research facilities are also located at the Piedmont Triad Community Research Center (PTCRC) campus in downtown Winston-Salem, which houses the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology and a growing Biotechnology Center, and the Friedberg campus, located approximately 10 miles from Winston-Salem, which houses a large non-human primate facility with laboratories and over 500 monkeys. The Medical Center currently is undergoing considerable expansion in an attempt to foster further growth of its many nationally recognized research programs. Wake Forest University sponsors a variety of arts and entertainment activities for its student and faculty population. As members of the well-known Atlantic Coast Conference, Wake Forest teams provide high-action competition in football, basketball, golf, tennis and track.
