The NC AHEC Spanish Language and Cultural Training Initiative is a unique opportunity to increase access and improve quality of healthcare services offered to Spanish-speaking families in North Carolina. Through a three-year grant from The Duke Endowment, the NC AHEC Program will collaborate with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Public Health and Health Sciences Library to provide a comprehensive statewide approach to Spanish language and cultural training. As part of this initiative, Spanish language books and audiovisuals have been purchased for each of the AHEC Libraries.

Where are the Spanish language resources housed?
Spanish healthcare books and audiovisuals are available at the three Northwest AHEC base libraries.
Who may use these materials?
Materials may be checked out by any health care personnel in the Northwest AHEC region.
How much does it cost to check out materials?
There is no charge for borrowing materials - just the UPS charge to return them.
How do I order materials?
You may call one of the Northwest AHEC libraries to borrow the materials.
How long can the materials be checked out?
Books and audiovisuals may be checked out for 2 weeks.
Do I need anything to check out these materials?
Yes. You need to bring your driver's license with you so that we can make a copy for our records during the time you are borrowing the materials.

Childhood Immunization: Kate Comes Back - 10 min - This program focuses on the importance of childhood immunizations as part of a child's continuing health. Viewers learn about types of immunizations required for children, how often they are needed and some of the common myths.

STDS: Straight Talk - 20 min - By witnessing the emotional accounts of young people who have contacted an STD, the viewer will learn that these diseases can be disguised yet powerful, both physically and emotionally.
