Projected Progress

Below is a timetable of the projected progress of a student of the PhD Program in Molecular Medicine:

First Year

By August

  • Students consult with Program Directors as temporary advisors
  • Start first year coursework
  • Start 3 months rotations through laboratories

By May 31

  • Complete first year coursework
  • Thesis advisor is selected and approved by Program Directors
  • Start Clinical Rotations

By August 1

  • Thesis Committee is selected
  • Thesis topic is discussed with the Thesis Committee

Second Year

By September 1

  • Start second year coursework
  • Start thesis research

By May 31

  • Complete second year course work

Third Year

By September 1

  • Submit outline of preliminary research proposal to Thesis Committee

By

October 31

  • The Thesis Committee will give an oral examination on research proposal and coursework

Sept – Oct

  • 2 weeks before the oral defense the students will provide a written copy of the research proposal to the thesis committee

Fourth/Fifth Year

Once each semester

  • The student will meet with the Thesis Committee to present written progress on the thesis research

Completion of Research

  • Complete thesis and submit written research proposal to the Thesis Committee
  • The Thesis Committee will give an oral examination on the student's research results presented in the thesis
