Bed Fleet Management
Bed Fleet Management is a new department within Materials Management.
It is a now the practice of NCBH to determine patient bed quantity needs by type through one department (Bed Feet Management) that will manage the bed fleet.
Bed Fleet management will be responsible for identifying functionally obsolete or unsafe beds that need to be disposed of and will complete the appropriate disposal documentation.
- Bed Fleet Management will justify capital expenditures and place purchase requisitions for beds, including renovations or hospital expansion by Facility Services in order to maintain the proper overall bed quantities by type.
- Bed Fleet Management will track repair costs to identify when an asset cost more to repair than it is worth; standardize on bed models and brands to allow for quicker training on bed operation, repair, and cannibalization of spare parts in order to reduce maintenance costs.
- Bed Fleet Management will standardize on asset identification tag location in order to perform preventive maintenance on the bed at least annually.
- Bed Fleet Management will lease beds when we do not have sufficient types to meet needs; in order to maintain a sufficient supply of beds for NCBH needs and not maintain more beds than we have storage space for.
Bed Management will determine overall hospital bed needs through the use of a bed tracking system and process management tools.
Floor locations will provide Bed Feet Management with growth or renovation needs in order for Bed Fleet Management to maintain the overall bed needs at NCBH. The Bed Fleet Management department will have all bed assets within their department and will purchase or dispose of all beds.
