RECALL PROCEDURE

 

 

When a non-sterile item is found or detected by a user, certain procedures should be followed:

 

1.  The user, person who opens the pack, should look at: 
     Indicator tape affixed to outside of pack.

 

2.  The indicators should show visible signs of sterilization exposure, i.e.:

 

a)     Steam indicator tape will have a black stripe

b)     Gas indicator tape will have a red stripe

 

3.  In the event these indicators do not show exposure, the user should notify the manager and/or assistant manager of CS.

 

4.  Upon notification of a non-sterile package processed by CS the following procedures will be followed:

 

a)     The manager of CS will notify the affected departments and/or units.

b)     All processed in the sterilizer load affected will be retrieved, reprocessed and returned or replaced.
