POST-BACCALAUREATE PREMEDICAL PROGRAM

What is the Post Baccalaureate Premedical Program?
Wake Forest University and Wake Forest University School of Medicine have developed a program to facilitate the entry of students who are disadvantaged or from populations underrepresented in medicine, into medical school. The curriculum focuses on science and communication skills.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
- Must have received a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the United States
- Must complete the application process and be willing to complete the program
- Must have an undergraduate science and overall grade point average of 2.7 or better and a total MCAT score of 21 or more (7's in each area) and N or above on the Writing Sample
- Must have completed eight semester hours each of Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physics
- Must have completed an AMCAS Application
How Long Is the Program?
The program begins in August and ends the following May (10 months).
What are the benefits of this program?
- Academic and career counseling available
- Tuition is waived (however, you are responsible for your living expenses) and a Program fee (currently $10,000 – subject to change)
- Scholarships available to cover Program Fee based upon financial need
- Admission to the Wake Forest University School of Medicine following completion of all of the program requirements including an overall GPA of 3.0 and a successful interview process.
How do I apply?
- Submit a Post Baccalaureate application by the March 1st deadline (click here for an Application) and include a copy of the AMCAS application
- Submit a personal essay which includes your reason for wanting to participate in this program
- Submit two letters of recommendation from faculty or a committee letter (one must be from science faculty) on letterhead and signed (non-traditional students, who have been out of school more than 3 years, can use an employer, other faculty member, or research supervisor, but ONLY if a science faculty is no longer available. Please include these in signed, sealed envelopes with your completed packet.
- Submit a $45.00 non-refundable application fee or a waiver from AMCAS (must be submitted before your application is complete. Make sure your cashiers check or money order is made payable to WFU School of Medicine
- Submit a 2x2 color photo (optional)
NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT A COMPLETE PACKET. LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION MUST BE IN A SIGNED, SEALED ENVELOPE.
What is the Procedure for Admission?
- Only completed packets will be considered (postmarked on or before March 1st) and received by March 5th
- Equal consideration is given to in-state and out-of-state students
- MCAT score must be within 3 years of date of matriculation into the medical school curriculum
- Selected applicants will be offered an interview by April 1st
- Final selections will be made by May 30th
- Ten students are selected to participate each year
- If you are accepted into the WFUSM PB program, you are asked to remove your name from all other medical school “wait list” before you begin the program in order to show full commitment to the PB program.
- Class will begin the first week of August.
- Please be aware that background checks are required before matriculating into the Wake Forest University School of Medicine medical school curriculum following completion of the PB program.
