Library-Provided PDA Software

  • AccessMedicine- save content for PDA download by clicking on the Save for PDA link from any content page on Accessmedicine. Sign up for a free personal account by clicking on “PDA Downloads” on the top right-hand side of the AccessMedicine home page.
  • DynaMed PDA - clinically organized summaries of nearly 1,800 topics and is updated daily from review of the research literature. Request a serial number for the PDA download or use via the web. Technical Requirements: DynaMed requires 25 megabytes of disk space on either the PDA device or a memory card.
  • MDConsult for PDA (MDC Mobile) -Get the table of contents from selected journals on your PDA, enter search topics to be searched at sync, get the latest medical news and other interactive functions.  Registration required (free), then click on "My PDA" for instructions on downloading the PDA component. Technical requirements: 9MB of free space recommended; most Palm and Pocket PC devices supported. Smartphones not supported at this time.
  • Thomson Clinical Xpert (formerly Mobile Micromedex) - PDA version of the popular drug reference includes drug information, possible interactions, toxicology, acute care, and alternative medicine information.  User's Guide (PDF)

  • Archimedes - specialty calculator with formulas ranging from Aa Gradient to Weights. Also includes formulas for Cardiology, Pharmacology, Hematology, FEN, Pediatrics, Pulmonary and Renal.
  • MedMath - compatible with Palm OS PDAs. Used for things like creatinine clearance, corrected sodium, FENa, etc.
  • EBM Calculator - calculates statistics for Diagnostic studies, Prospective Studies, Case Control Studies, and Randomized Control Trials (RCT).

  • ePocrates - clinical drug reference guide with over 1500 entries requiring a Palm OS.

  • Johns Hopkins Antibiotic Guide - a "decision support tool" intended to provide clinicians with concise, digested, timely information about the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases.
  • Diagnosaurus - 1000+ differential diagnoses. Explore by disease, symptom, or organ system. Cross-linked to related entries.
  • memoware.com - over 350 medical documents (databases, literature, maps, technical references, lists, etc.) specially formatted to be easily added to your PalmOS device, Psion PDA, TI Avigo, or WinCE device. Unless otherwise mentioned, all documents are free for your use.
  • statcoder.com - comprehensive diagnosis coding tools for the handheld. Free demos of STAT E&M Coder and STAT ICD-9 Coder and full free versions of STAT Cholesterol and STAT GrowthCharts.

    Provides a variety of medical texts for PDA on such topics as consumer health, dermatology, emergency medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, rehabilitation, plastic surgery and sports medicine. To access the PDA resources, select a link from eMedicine on the go.
  • HandHeldMed
    Handheldmed delivers point of care content and applications ideally suited for busy healthcare professionals.     The Antibiotic Guide is a "decision support tool" intended to provide clinicians with concise, digested, timely information about the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. The information is arranged so that it is clinically useful at the point of care, instantly.  This guide is available for use in a variety of handheld device formats, including Palm OS.  
  • Lexi Drugs
    Lexi Drug is a handheld comprehensive drug reference.  This site also offers Lexi's companion products for nursing and pediatrics, a drug reax database, and other clinical products for the handheld device.
  • Pediatrics on Hand
    This site, created by Dr. David C. Stockwell,  is a comprehensive guide to the use of PDAs in the field of pediatrics.  It lists PDA information and news, a PDA pediatrics library, information on documents and databses, download information, reviews, links to ped sites and a search function.  
  • RNPalm (PDA Cortex)

    EuroCool is a palm software site, listing a wide variety of software applications for handheld devices. The site also provides links to other such software sites that also specialize in applications for PDAs.
  • Handango 
    Handango provides users with software applications, hardware and accessories specific to the handheld arena.  This site has a special section for new PDA users which guides the user from the basics to the advanced. 
  • Memoware 
    Memoware is an online repository of PDA documents.  This site offers a variety of content area documents including Medicine. There are also links to an ebooks repository where electronic texts can be downloaded directly to a handheld device.

    Nearly Mobile is a basics how-to site specific to the Palm handheld device format.  The site includes basics, tips and tricks, common problems and solutions, and an area for the user to ask specific questions.
