Academic Search Premier - Indexing for over 8,200 publications, with full text for nearly 4,650 of those titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,000 titles.
Access Medicine -Provides an online portal to many of the publisher’s most popular medical titles: Harrison’s Online, Hurst’s The Heart, the AccessLANGE series in the basic and clinical sciences, and The Metabolic and Molecular Bases of Inherited Disease. A new component is CURRENT Medical Diagnosis & Treatment, which will be updated quarterly rather than the standard annual updating in the print version and offer PDA downloads of point-of-use information for the clinician. AccessMedicine.com users will also have access to GoldStandard Multimedia’s Clinical Pharmacology, which has over 2,600 monographs covering over 95,000 drug products, as well as patient information in English and Spanish. AccessMedicine.com also makes available self-evaluation instruments and lifelong learning tools such as online lectures, USMLE-type questions, and peer-to-peer discussion.
ACP Journal Club - Reviews selected articles from over 70 journals based on strict criteria for study design and clinical relevance.

AGRICOLA - Contains records covering every major agricultural subject.
AIDSInfo - U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) project that offers the latest federally approved information on HIV/AIDS clinical research, treatment and prevention, and medical practice guidelines for people living with HIV/AIDS, their families and friends, health care providers, scientists, and researchers.
Biological Abstracts - Includes citations and some abstracts from over 6500 international life sciences journals. Fields covered include: biology, botany, zoology, biotechnology, and environmental studies.
BioMed Central - Publishes peer-reviewed, primary research articles across all areas of biology and medicine, including access to over 60 specialist journals, news, editorials, and commentaries.
Biomedical Links - Links that have been evaluated for content and quality by librarians at the Carpenter Library.
Business Source Premier -Includes abstracts, indexing, and full text from international business periodicals. The main search fields are: subject, title, author, and abstract. Index the Eastern Edition of the Wall Street Journal, from 1993 to the present.
Cancer Institute- Access to PDQ information summaries on treatment (for health professionals and for patients), supportive care, screening and prevention, and investigational or newly approved drugs. The treatment and supportive care summaries are available in English and Spanish. Access to fact sheets on over 100 cancer-related topics from the NCI's Office of Cancer Communications, selected PDQ News items, information on ordering NCI publications, citations and abstracts on cancer topics extracted monthly on the bibliographic database CANCERLIT, and additional information on PDQ and its availability.
ChemID- Chemical Identification file built and maintained by the National Library of Medicine. It serves as an authority file for the identification of chemical substances cited in NLM databases. It contains one record per chemical substance for over 340,000 compounds cited in the NLM databases residing on either the ELHILL or TOXNET system. The data elements include: CAS Registry Numbers, Molecular Formulas, Systematic Names, Synonyms, MeSH Headings, Name and Formula Fragments, and List and File Locator designations.

CLIPP (Computer-assisted Learning In Pediatrics Program) - learning program for use by third-year medical students during their pediatric clerkship. CLIPP's 31 interactive virtual patient cases are designed to cover all of the core content of the curriculum of the Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics. Cochrane Controlled Trials Register -Database of definitive controlled trials that have been identified bydistinguished contributors to the Cochrane Collaboration. Part of an international effort to search the world's health care journals (and other sources of information) systematically, Cochrane combines results to create an unbiased source of data for systematic reviews.
Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews -Full text of regularly updated systematic reviews of the effects of healthcare, prepared by The Cochrane Collaboration.
Cochrane Methodology Register (Methods Studies) - Reports on methods used in the conduct of controlled trials. It includes journal articles, books and conference proceedings; these articles are taken from the MEDLINE database and from hand searches. The database contains studies of methods used in reviews and more general methodological studies which could be relevant to anyone preparing systematic reviews. CMR records contain the title of the article, information on where it was published (bibliographic details) and, in some cases, a summary of the article. They do not contain the full text of the article.
CogNet -Provides an electronic community for researchers in cognitive and brain sciences with a full text Library of over 61 titles, an interactive forum where scholars, students, and professionals can join discussion groups, job listings, and CV and bibliography utilities. DARE: Database of Reviews of Effectiveness - Critical assessments of systematic reviews from a variety of medical journals.
DynaMed - (Dynamic Medical Information System)medical reference system designed for use at the point of care. DynaMed contains clinically organized summaries of nearly 1,800 topics and is updated daily from review of the research literature. EBM Reviews-Full Text -This multifile database allows you to search simultaneously the three Evidence Based Medicine Reviews databases: ACP Journal Club (ACP), Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR), and Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness (DARE).
EbscoHost - Provides access to several databases such as Academic Search Elite, HealthSource Plus, Masterfile Premier, Business Source Elite, and Clinical Reference Systems. The resource also provides access to several medical and general texts such as USDPI Instructions toPatients and Funk and Wagnall's New World Encyclopedia.
Electronic Journals - Carpenter Library electronic journal subscription titles and links to the publishers. Itspecifies the years available electronically and may be searched alphabetically, bytopic or by title.
Electronic Textbooks - Carpenter Library electronic textbook databases - listed by subject, publisher or title.
Electronic Theses & Dissertations (ETD) - Wake Forest began participating in an electronic theses and dissertation program in 2001. We created a local database which is housed on a WFU server and is accessible through the Reynolds and Carpenter Library's websites. Recently this database has been connected to NDLTD which gives WFU theses/dissertation access world wide. More information on the FAQ page.
Encyclopædia Britannica EB Online includes the complete encyclopedia, as well as Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and the Britannica Book of the Year. You can also use EB Online to search an Internet directory that includes more than 130,000 links to Web sites selected, rated, and reviewed by Britannica editors.
Encyclopedic Dictionary of Genetics, Genomics and Proteomics - Includes terms and concepts dealing with biochemistry, cell and developmental biology, immunology, hereditary diseases, and molecular evolution, as well as the state of the art in genomics and proteomics. The nearly 25,000 alphabetically arranged entries are concise yet detailed, including ample cross-references, literature citations, databases, tables, and illustrations.
ERIC-Educational Resource Information Center, contains more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from over 1,000 educational and education-related journals.
Exam Master - USMLE- With EXAM MASTER you can: Take exams which simulate the actual board exam experience; Quickly identify your strengths and weaknesses; Customize the selection of your study material.
Faculty of 1000- an online research service that comprehensively and systematically highlight and review the most interesting papers published in the biological sciences, based on the recommendations of a faculty of well over 1000 selected leading researchers. This service provides scientists with a continuously updated insider's guide to the most important papers within any given field of research, highlights papers on the basis of their scientific merit rather than the journal in which they appear, offers the researcher a consensus of recommendations from well over 1000 leading scientists, and systematically organizes and evaluates the mass of information within scientific literature. Faculty of 1000 provides an immediate rating of individual papers by the authors' peers, and an important complement to the indirect assessment provided by the journal impact factor.
Faculty Publications -At the end of each fiscal year, the faculty publications databaseis used to gather the departmental publication data and is submittedto the Dean forthe Annual Report. In the Annual Report, statistics are provided showing totals by publication type and also departmental totals by publication type. See last year's Annual Report here (on-campus only). Citations of faculty publications also are used in grant applications and curricula vitae.
Gateway at the National Library of Medicine- One-stop searching for many of NLM's information resources or databases. It is being developed by the Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications (LHNCBC) at the National Library of Medicine (NLM), a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The current Gateway searches MEDLINE/PubMed, OLDMEDLINE, LOCATORplus, MEDLINEplus, DIRLINE, AIDS Meetings, Health Services Research Meetings, Space Life Sciences Meetings, and HSRProj.
GPO Access- Searchesthe Federal Register, Congressional Record, Congressional Bills, the Monthly Catalog, US Government Manual, the US Code, GAO Reports, public laws and the Congressional Directory. The official site for this information.
GPO Monthly Catalog- Finding tool for federal publications that includes descriptive records for historical and current publications and provides direct links to those that are available online.
Health and Psychosocial Instruments- Provides information on measurement instruments (i.e., questionnaires, interview schedules, checklists, index measures, coding schemes/ manuals, rating scales, projective techniques, vignettes/scenarios, tests) in the health fields, psychosocial sciences, organizational behavior, and library and information science. HAPI assists researchers, practitioners, educators, administrators, and evaluators, including students, to identify measures needed for research studies, grant proposals, client/patient assessment, class papers/projects, theses/dissertations, and program evaluation. Health Source Consumer Edition - Provides abstracts and indexing for 500 consumer health, nutrition and professional periodicals. Over 200 periodicals and 1,000 pamphlets are covered in full text. Includes USP DI Volume II, Advice for the Patient, and 17 health books published by the People's Medical Society.
Health Source Nursing/Academic Edition - This database provides nearly 550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Also features abstracts and indexing for nearly 850 journals. This database is updated on a daily basis.Includes USP DI Volume II, Advice for the Patient, and 17 health books published by the People's Medical Society.
Health Technology Assessment Database - The HTA database brings together details of completed and ongoing health technology assessments (studies of the medical, social, ethical and economic implications of health care interventions) from around the world. The aim of the database is to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of health care. The HTA database is produced by the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD) at the University of York, UK, using information obtained from members of INAHTA and other health technology assessment organizations.
Household Products Database - This database, produced by the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health, links over 4,000 consumer brand name items to information on their health effects. It allows scientists and consumers to research products based on chemical ingredients. Categories of products include household cleaners, automotive products, personal care items, pesticides, yard and home maintenance supplies, and materials used for hobbies and crafts.
Ingenuity Pathways Analysis - IPA software is a web-based application with expert-curated knowledge database that can assist researchers in modeling, analyzing and understanding complex biological pathways and networks. Register here: https://analysis.ingenuity.com/pa/
Inspec - The Institution of Engineering and Technology created this database providing abstracts and indexing to the world's scientific and technical literature. Containing over 8 million records, Inspec provides coverage from over 3,400 journals, 2,000 conference proceedings as well as numerous books, dissertations and reports.
International Pharmaceutical Abstracts - Provides worldwide coverage of pharmaceutical science and health related literature. Comprehensive information is included for drug therapy, toxicity, and pharmacy practice as well as legislation, regulation, technology, utilizations,biopharmaceutics, information processing, education, economics, and ethics as related to pharmaceutical science and practice.
Journal Citation Reports - Resource for journal evaluation, using citation data drawn from over 8,400 scholarly and technical journals worldwide. Coverage is both multidisciplinary and international, and incorporates journals from over 3,000 publishers in 60 nations. The JCR is source of citation data on journals, and includes specialties in the areas of science, technology, and the social sciences.The JCR has two editions:
JCR Science Edition - Contains data from roughly 5,000 journals in the areas of science and technology.
JCR Social Science Edition - Contains data from roughly 1,500 journals in the social sciences.

LactMed - Provides health care practitioners and nursing mothers with reliable and freely accessible information on drugs to which nursing mothers may be exposed and the effects of those drugs on nursing infants and on lactation. Lact Med is searchable by drug name (generic or trade) a drug's pharmacologic category, CAS Registry number, and by subject terms.
Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe - Contains full text access to a wide range of news, country profiles, business and company information, legal research databases, and some general medical/health and reference sources.
MasterFILE Premier -Contains abstracts and indexing for more than 3,100 magazines, newspapers and journals. Full text is available for over 1500 periodicals. Subjects covered include general reference, business, health, literature, current events, and more. Includes Magill Books Reviews in fulltext.
MDConsult - Provides access to over 30 medical texts, articles from more than 40 clinical journals, practice guidelines, drug information, 2,500 patient education handouts, CME, and daily medical updates customized to user specialty.
MedCalc3000- A computerized medical reference and tool set encompassing a wide array of medical formulae, clinical criteria sets and decision treeanalysis tools used everyday by clinicians, medical educators, nurses and health care students.
Medline (PubMed) - Covers 3,800 international journals in the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, health care systems, and preclinical sciences. Primary source for technical medical information.
MedlinePlus includes medical dictionaries, directories for physician information and Loansome Docfor ordering copies of journal articles. The Health Topics listing is a way to search for moreinformation on a given disease or condition.
Mental Measurements Yearbook - Descriptions of nearly 1900 commercially published standardized educational, personality, vocational aptitude, and psychological tests. It provides authors, publishers, time requirements, score descriptions, intended populations, validity/reliability data, and critical reviews.
Micromedex - Access to drug databases such as Poisindex, Identidex, Drugdex, Martindale, Drug-reax, and IV Index. This system also provides access to patient leaflets with consumer level information on various drugs.
Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database - Over 2000 monographs give updated and unbiased information about herbal medicines. Each product monograph provides a patient handout and all information is referenced. Drug interactions, safety concerns, effectiveness ratings, and ingredient listings are easily searchable. There is also a separate web site for patients. This gives patients reliable information in patient-friendly wording based on Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database. The content of the patient-oriented web site is integrated into the professional Web site so health professionals who use the database can instantly have access to all of the patient education information and can print them for a patient at any time.
NCLIVE - NC LIVE offers the citizens of North Carolina online access to a diverse collection of electronic resources including complete articles from over 16,000 newspapers, journals, magazines, and encyclopedias, indexing for over 25,000 periodical titles, and access to over 25,000 online print and audio books. NC LIVE is available free of charge to library patrons, students, and educators from four communities of interest (COIs) -- public libraries, community colleges, the state's university system, and members of the North Carolina Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. NC LIVE can be accessed from within an affiliated library or from home.

Newspaper Abstracts -Provides the abstracts from 25 newspapers, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and Christian Science Monitor.
Newspaper Source - Provides abstracts and indexing for: The New York Times, Wall Street Journal (Eastern and Western editions), Christian Science Monitor and USA Today. Coverage includes everything except obituaries (exclusive of famous people), sports tables, ads/classifieds, stock prices, and weather.
NIH Clinical Alerts- Clinical alerts are provided to expedite the release of findings from the NIH-funded clinical trials where such release could significantly affect morbidity and mortality.
OECD Health Data 2006 -A source of comparable statistics on health and health care systems of the OECD economies. This tool enables health researchers and policy advisors in governments, the private sector and the academic community to carry out comparative analyses and draw lessons from cross-country comparisons of national health care systems. The OECD Health database covers over 1,200 indicators and offering sophisticated query modules. The most recent data are for 2003/2004, with many time series going back as far as 1960.

The Ovid MEDLINE database contains bibliographic citations and author abstracts from more than 4,600 biomedical journals published in the United States and in 70 other countries. The database contains well over 12 million citations dating back to the mid-1960's, including more than 130,000 population-related journal citations (unique to the former POPLINE database) that were added to MEDLINE in October of 2002. Although coverage is worldwide, most records are derived from English-language sources or have English abstracts. Abstracts are included for more than 75% of the records.
Oxford English Dictionary- The Oxford English Dictionary is the accepted authority on the evolution of the English language over the last millennium. It is an unsurpassed guide to the meaning, history, and pronunciation of over half a million words, both present and past.

PrimateLit- Provides bibliographic access to the scientific literature on nonhuman primates for the research and educational communities. Coverage of the database spans 1940 to present and includes all publication categories (articles, books, abstracts, technical reports, dissertations, book chapters, etc.) and many subject areas (behavior, colony management, ecology, reproduction, field studies, disease models, veterinary science, psychology, physiology, pharmacology, evolution, taxonomy, developmental and molecular biology, genetics and zoogeography).
ProQuest - A multidisciplinary collection of databases that includearticles covering the humanities, social sciences, sciences, and business. Databases include Research Library, Ethnic NewsWatch, ProQuest Religion, and several major newspapers.
PubMed- Provides access to MEDLINE, a database of citations covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and preclinical sciences. Other services within PubMed include the Journal Browser, MeSH (Medical Subject Heading) Browser, Citation Matcher, and Clinical Queries. PubMed also provides access to molecular biology databases in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) Entrez retrieval system with components for searching DNA and protein sequences, 3-D protein structure data, population study data sets, and assemblies of complete genomes.
PubMed Central – Free digital archive of full text biomedical and life sciences journal literature maintained by the National Library of Medicine. Includes content supplied directly from publishers of journals indexed by MEDLINE, as well as author manuscripts of published or accepted for publication articles stemming from research funded by the National Institutes of Health.
PsycINFO - Provides comprehensive coverage for the field of psychology from over 45 countries. Contains abstracts andfull-textfrom articles, books, book chapters, journals, dissertations, and other sources.
Public Library of Science - The Public Library of Science (PLoS) is a nonprofit organization of scientists and physicians committed to making the world's scientific and medical literature a public resource.

Science.gov Science.gov is a gateway to authoritative selected science information provided by U.S. Government agencies, including research and development results.
Science Citation Index - Indexes over 5,300 journals in the sciences, including the following areas: agriculture, biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, math, medicine, physics and veterinary science. Provides bibliographic data, author abstracts, and cited references. Useful for searching for articles that cite a known author or work. Citation searching also allows you to use a given work as a subject term in order to identify more recent articles about the same topic.

Serials Directory -Provides information about over 150,000 serial publications, including indexing and abstracting services, and over 8,000 newspapers. It is searchable by title, editor's name, publisher, frequency, subject, etc.
Sociologic Abstracts - Provides citations and abstracts to articles published in some 2300 journals in sociology, social welfare, and social policy, as well as other related topics in the social and behavioral sciences. Also includes citations to some books and many dissertations.
SPORTDiscus -Offers comprehensive, bibliographic coverage of sport, fitness and related disciplines. This database contains over 650,000 records with journal and monograph coverage going back to 1800; over 20,000 dissertations and theses and reference to articles in 60 different languages.
STAT-USA - Provides statisticsforbusiness, international market research, and socio-economic information from over 50 U.S. government agencies. A particularly good source on export promotion and international trade issues. Domestic economic and business information includes: National Income and Product Accounts (including GDP), Composite Index of Leading Indicators, Regional Economic Data including personal income, wages and employment for states and local areas, Housing and Population Statistics, and the Economic Report of the President and the budget of the U.S. Federal Government."
Statistical Universe -Includes the American Statistics Index (ASI) from 1973- , links to 800 full-text documents published since 1994 and links to over 2,000 publications on federal agency web sites, including the Statistical Abstract of the United States.
TOXNET - Direct links to toxicology and environmental health databases such as, HSDB (Hazardous Substances Data Base) and CCRIS (Chemical Carcinogenesis research Information System) as well as finding chemical names/structures.
UpToDate - Designed to get physicians the concise, practical answers they need when they need them the most - at the point of care. The topic reviews are written exclusively for UpToDate by physicians for physicians - nearly 3,000 physicians serve as authors. The content is comprehensive yet concise and it's fully referenced. It goes through an extensive peer review process to ensure that the information and recommendations you access from our service are accurate and reliable. This resource is NOT available off-campus.

Wall Street Journal -The financial newspaper of record offering in-depth coverage of national and international finance as well as coverage of hard news.
Web of Science - Contains three ISI Citation Databases (Sciences, Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences), which together index over 8,000 peer-reviewed journals. Provides bibliographic data, author abstracts, and cited references. Useful for searching databases for articles that cite a known author or work. Citation searching also allows you to use a given work as a subject term in order to identify more recent articles about the same topic. Science Citation Index Expanded indexes over 5,300 journals in the sciences, including the following areas: agriculture, biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, math, medicine, physics and veterinary science. Social Science Citation Index covers over 1,700 journals in the social sciences including anthropology, communications, history, law, management, political science, psychology, sociology, and women's studies. Arts & Humanities Citation Index covers over 1,100 journals in the arts and humanities including architecture, art, Asian studies, classics, history, languages, linguistics, literature, music, philosophy, and theater.
Web Tutorials - Created by the Librarians at Carpenter Library and at other institutions where noted. They are intended to compliment the courses currently offered by the library.
WorldCat - The world'slargest bibliographic database, with63 million bibliographic records representing 400 languages and covering information from 4,000 years of knowledge, and holdings information from the world's libraries.
Zoological Record -Comprehensive index to zoological literature. Records cover every aspect of zoology, including biochemistry, behavior, ecology evolution, genetics, etc. Over 5,000 international serials plus approximately 1,500 non-serial publications are covered, including professional journals, magazines, newsletters, monographs, books, reviews, and conference proceedings.
