WFUSM FACULTY (PAPER)
Other Services
- Electronic textbooks in basic sciences: Neuroscience, Biology, Mathematics, Statistics.
- I would like electronic subscriptions to more journals. Often, I try to access an article only to find we don’t subscribe to the electronic version of that journal.
- Entrance and exit from NRC doors. Add a card reader to both sides with book check out only through the older entrance.
- Coffee.
Expanding Wireless
- Yes.
- Did not know wireless was available.
Downtown Library
- It would not affect me as long as the e-journal subscriptions were expanded some (i.e. subscribe to ALLyears.) I usually go to the Library to copy an article not available on-line.
- I often visit the stacks. The move would be a problem for me, except if my department (Neurobiology) moved as well.
- TERRIBLE! It is unthinkable not to have a medical library on premises.
- I would not like it as checking out journals would be difficult.
- Disaster.
- I’d get by. If we could request articles on line that would be great.
- Not much. Expanding e-journal list would be helpful.
- Ok with me but move should be coordinated with where the educational space will eventually be and that’s still debatable. The Library at Vanderbilt is a good model as a focal point of the med campus and lots of study space. Maybe there’s a way to separate quiet stack space from meeting rooms, interactive space with a Starbucks feel and a little noisier environment.
- Somewhat.
- Badly.
- Adversely. This would be a serious mistake, as many individuals would not be able to access this campus.
- Would be detrimental to the research efforts and teaching activities that I participate in.
- Very inconvenient! I often need print holdings.
- Very Little. I use the “physical Library” relatively little. I use the library services constantly.
- Seriously limit availability, especially for immediate needs.
- Not much. It would mean greater travel time for my research assistants, but they seem to be getting more and more am time these days, so the affect would be very small.
- Would never go to the Library.
- Disaster!
- I would love it! I work at PTCRC! It would be nice to have a quiet place to go work.
- This would be inconvenient. However, much of what I do is over the internet. Please consider checking out books via the internet if you move.
- Terrible idea. Would be difficult and out of the way to access library, both for students and faculty. Please keep in same location, which is ideal for us all.
- Adversely, unless I move with it!
- I think this would further destroy the back bone of the medical school. I would “never” use the facility downtown. The Library is one of the precious few positives of being on the faculty here that remains intact. The Leadership of this school is blindly destroying what their predecessors built. Why not let the students take correspondence courses? A top medical university without an onsite library??!! – Shame on you!!!
- Not at all, if print journals can be delivered to this campus on request.
WFUSM FACULTY (ON-LINE)
Other Services
- Consider institutional access to Pepidonline.com (an interactive medical and drug reference).
- More education about how to obtain journal articles from sources that the Library does not own. I am still confused about interlibrary loan.
- Increased electronic journal subscriptions.
- Continue to improve/revise your full text linkage with PubMed and other search engines.
Expanding Wireless
- I did not know there is wireless service there.
Downtown Library
- Limited impact for me; it is only occasionally that I physically visit the Library to obtain copies of older manuscripts.
- As long as interlibrary loan can be inter-officed to me then I am ok with it.
- Would not be a tremendous problem as most of my use is electronic.
- It would make checking older resources (not available online) cumbersome and time consuming. Some method of either requesting material not available online in an inexpensive and timely fashion would need to be arranged. (Ideally, scanned and emailed – but this is staff intensive.)
- I would never use it.
- I would find this extremely inconvenient. Photocopying an article from a journal would go from taking 10 minutes now to 40-60 minutes if the Library were to relocate.
- This would be a gigantic disadvantage to me. I cannot readily travel to the research park and enjoy the same access to library materials I have now. I also think it would be a disadvantage to medical students and residents; residents in particular are less able to leave the hospital and travel to a remote library to access materials.
- A lot, I suggest to open a branch office there if the medical center has sufficient money and I hope this is not a political movement.
- A move away from the hospital would substantially impede my ability to review the texts and journals for clinical and research applications. I am strongly opposed to moving the library away from the medical school.
- This would negatively affect my ability to utilize the existing print collection and study space.
- It would be like not having a library. I do a great deal of book and journal consults.
- Much more convenient to have library on Hawthorne Hill. A lot of time would be lost getting down town for library. It would be a major disaster if adequate parking was not included in any plan to move the library down town. Having the new and archived journals on Hawthorne Hill is a major advantage.
WFUSM Staff (Paper)
Other Services
- More Element K; like interactive/self teach courses.
- Expand e-journals.
Expanding Wireless
Downtown Library
- Difficult to use off site.
- The library is integral to the students as well as clinical researchers on the main campus. Moving downtown, in whole, would be ill advised.
- It won’t.
- It would be negative, although I use on-line services more often; having the library (stacks of journals) close by is a valuable resource for me and my textbook/research work.
- This would affect me a great deal in that I need to use the library weekly and some weeks daily.
WFUSM Staff (On-line)
Other Services
- Some training in how to find articles/journals/etc. instead of having to order them.
- More electronic journals; more available journals that are not so popular.
Expanding Wireless
- Didn’t know the library has wireless access.
Downtown Library
- No affect.
- Dreadfully! How are we supposed to pull journals and copy when you are downtown? Everything that is not online must be pulled and copied by me. How ridiculous to have the library so far away from an academic setting!
- Would visit it a lot less.
- Horrible idea. There is no way I’d have enough time away from the clinic to make the trip. Also, how would secretaries be able to haul 20 bound journals back to the office for copying? (We are supposed to use our own copy machine, not the library machine.)
- It would be extremely inconvenient – many times as a clinician I need to just go to the library to look things up – it would be impossible if the library was downtown.
- This would be great if my section also moves to the downtown research park.
- Don’t want library to move. Very convenient it its current location.
- Yes, I would not be able to get there. I hope you will keep a Computer Learning Center here at this campus. It is good to be able to use it during lunch.
- It would effectively prevent me from using the library for anything other than online journals/PubMed/e-books.
- This would be very inconvenient, and I would not receive articles for patient use, research, discussions, conferences and NC license renewal in a timely manner. I feel the library should be where we do student teaching, lectures and where the Drs. Academic offices are located. It is convenient to be able to go to the first floor for these resources. Traveling back and forth to another building would be to time consuming.
- The faculty the Anesthesiology Grand Rounds CME activity I support would have to wait longer for me to obtain copies of journal articles and textbooks. I visit the library to obtain on their behalf. I get as many journal articles as I can online, but older articles are not available. Unless the library can guarantee same day turn around on all photocopy requests if the journals is in our holdings, being offsite would not be good for the faculty who are here on the main campus.

NCBH STAFF (PAPER)
Other Services
Expanding Wireless
Downtown Library
- Would be much more difficult to access information I need.
- Would be very difficult because of time constraints.
- Negative – I love it where it is 1 one floor below my office.
- I would not use it. Very inconvenient.
NCBH STAFF (ON-LINE)
Other Services
- Free basic computer class.
- It’s great the way it’s set up now.
Expanding Wireless
- Did not know it was available.
Downtown Library
- I wouldn’t be able to go as often as I do now. When I’m on the unit, I can quickly go to the library without being missed. If or when the library moves, it would be difficult to visit or look up research articles without having to clock out.
- It would make me less likely to sign up for the Computer Classes, because it would be inconvenient for me to catch a shuttle to downtown.
- It is easy to walk to the library now, if it were to move it would be difficult for me to go every day.
- If classes that are usually offered would still be available here on campus but other than that I would think for those who use the library for daily use it would be an inconvenience.
RESIDENT/FELLOW (PAPER)
Other Services
- ACP Journal Club access
- Access to Last Word from the Library.
- More computer terminals.
Expanding Wireless
Downtown Library
- It would be difficult for me to use.
- I would probably never go there.
RESIDENT/FELLOW (ON-LINE)
Other Services
- Retrieval and photocopying of non-electronic journal articles.
Expanding Wireless
- Incorporate b or g wifi instead only a.
Downtown Library
- Loss of study space, loss of access to bound journals, loss of access to textbooks from stacks and reference area. Reduced access to computers and librarians and library training.
- This would clearly be detrimental to the regular users of the library here at the medical center and school. Perhaps a second library is indicated at that location instead of a replacement.
- It would be very difficult for me to complete research projects that require copying articles from the stacks. I have very limited time to go elsewhere to try to complete research projects.
- I would be very upset. I enjoy coming to the library to read journal articles and study in my field. I would really miss coming here to learn and to research. I hope you don’t move. The library is a sanctuary from the hospital that provides many services that I utilize almost daily.
- I would miss the study space and the ability to easily go find old journal articles while at work/on call. I primarily use the online info, but occasionally need a copy of an older journal article from the stacks that is not available on line.
- I don’t think I would be able to use it. I use it during the day when I have some spare time. I would not have sufficient time to travel, since I am required to be on the premises here during work hours.
- I would miss the study space which I sometimes use when I am waiting for conferences, and the ease of looking up articles during the work day (in between OR cases) but that could be replaced by electronic resources and department study space.
MEDICAL STUDENT (ON-LINE)
Other Services
- Some even more expanded hours.
- More study space.
- I know this was recently changed, but I really preferred being able to access UpToDate and other resources from home.
- More accessible form the internet (i.e. without having to log into lastword to access it from home).
- Please start doing the free photocopying form students. It is a very helpful service.
Expanding Wireless
Downtown Library
- This would be terrible. The library needs to be where the patients are. I need to be able to find journal articles that aren’t online and then go back to the floors.
- It would affect where I study, although if the library were bigger with more services, it would probably be a good thing.
- It wouldn’t affect me, as I do not enter the library to use it.
- It makes it difficult for medical students or residents to quickly look up material if the library were moved downtown. I am sure the amount of space would drastically improve however.
- This would be an extremely bad move. I would never use the library.
- This would be really bad in that I can go to the library while on rotations and look things up and study, as well as check out materials to use for the rotation.
- It would be more useful if the library were to move downtown.
- It would be terrible. We would not have access to the study space when we have free time on the wards and to look up important topics. I have used that space for board prep and it’s great just where it is.
GRADUATE STUDENT (ON-LINE)
Other Services
Expanding Wireless
- I didn’t know wireless was available in the library.
Downtown Library
- It would make my ability to use it much less since I would have to either get on a van or drive down there to go to it. Unless the bulk of our labs and other places move down there it should not be done.
- Being a resident, I wouldn’t have the time to travel downtown just to use the library.
- I’d be more likely to use it.

OTHER (ON-LINE)
Other Services
- “Lend a librarian” in which you would send a librarian to a business affiliate’s site to determine what research assistance would be most helpful, to give brief orientation on library services to new users, to provide hints/worksheet on most efficient ways to research using WFUBMC library tools.
Expanding Wireless
- Though I rarely visit campus since I work from Targacept, I believe wireless should be expanded on the campus and in areas where it is deemed useful for productive work/study.
Downtown Library
- Traveling time to and from that location; therefore, not readily accessible.
- We would LOVE it and our researchers would visit the library often and our business would hold more training classes there.
COMMUNITY (ON-LINE)
Other Services
- Offer PDF document delivery via Loansome Doc on its PubMed service. Currently, I am forced to use an account with UNC Chapel Hill to receive this service in a reliable and timely manner.
- Really appreciate the monitor outside the main door that was put up 4-6 months ago with posted events. Thanks!
Expanding Wireless
- I’m not now but probably will be eventually.
Downtown Library
- I would be less likely to view books/journals at the library and would become more dependent on services delivered via the website.
- I really enjoy it here. Easy, very convenient. Also like the covered parking and available security. I am a 40’s female and come late (~ 8 PM) stay late (usually until 11:30 – midnight). Research Park is nice but most medical students are here.
NO STATUS (PAPER)
Other Services
- For certain journals (any Heart Assoc. Journal) we cannot access the E-pubs before publication. This puts us at a competitive disadvantage with investigators in other schools.
Expanding Wireless
Downtown Library
- It would make it very difficult to look into journal articles not available online.
- Would make research and teaching more difficult.
NO STATUS (ON-LINE)
Other Services
Expanding Wireless
Downtown Library
- It would significantly affect support staff in Anesthesiology because they use the Library resources extensively. In fact, at the moment, I don’t know how we would handle such and inconvenience.
- I think it would be a great inconvenience, particularly for med students and grad students who use the library to study and research. It would also be inconvenient for those of us who use the library for research but are based within the medical school and at Piedmont Plaza.
- Greatly in a negative way.
- I would be very upset.
- If the same hours of operation were kept or extended, it would be great!
