The Tinsley R. Harrison Translational Research Program

Overview

A 3-6 month training program for residents (3 months), fellows (3-6 months), or junior faculty (6 months) designed to provide introduction to research career development:

1)                 provide foundation knowledge in cutting-edge methodologies/techniques for application to basic science or translational research

2)                 initiate development of a research project that will transition into a project to be completed with a faculty mentor or via extramural funding

·         Residents, Fellows, or Junior Faculty will formally apply to the training program

·         Specific training, project will be designed in conjunction with faculty mentor (if applicable)

·         Applicant will work with Program Director to execute 3-6 month project

Expectations

·         Training will follow a predetermined schedule

·         A detailed laboratory notebook will be maintained

·         A seminar will be presented every 3 months summarizing….

·         Project will result in the submission of an abstract to a scientific meeting or an authored manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal.

Training Modules

Trainee will select a specific module dedicated to a specific research program:

A.                 Cell Physiology/Biochemistry/Proteomics

B.                  Imaging

C.                 Immunology/Flow Cytometry

D.                 Small Animal Models/Genetic Manipulation

E.                  Genomics/Molecular Biology

F.                  GCRC/Patient-Centered Investigation

G.                 Epidemiology/Outcomes Research/Database Management
