Pathobiology of Vascular Disease

William B. Strawn, D.V.M., Ph.D.

(William Strawn, Linda Moore)

Dr. Strawn’s laboratory investigates the role of the renin-angiotensin system in the development of cells that participate in atherogenesis and hypertension-related vascular remodeling.  Recent studies from his laboratory identified a bone marrow renin-angiotensin system that may regulate hematopoiesis and the generation of blood-borne immune cells.  These studies suggest that bioactive lipids and the renin-angiotensin system interact not only in the local activation of endothelial recruitment mechanisms, but also in the production of circulating cells involved in vascular injury, remodeling and repair.
