Research Description:

          Inflammatory and Immune Processes in Vascular Disease
          Atherosclerosis and Vascular Repair
          Role of the Renin-Angiotensin System in Hematopoiesis

Current Research:

The laboratory investigates the contributions of bone marrow-derived hematopoietic and mesenchymal progenitor cells to the pathogenesis of vascular disease. Both in vivo and in vitro studies from the laboratory suggest that the renin-angiotensin system is a determining factor regulating bone marrow function in hypercholesterolemic patients and animal models of atherosclerosis. Dr. Strawn is the recipient of an American Heart Association Scientist Development Grant, and is a Fellow and member of the AHA Councils on High Blood Pressure Research (HBPR) and Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology (ATVB).
