Research Description:

Dr. Cline is currently interested in the assessment and control of untreated and under treated hypertension out of the emergency department, with special attention to follow-up and referral. This project has been funded by the CDC through the Association of Teachers of Preventative Medicine. Other ongoing research includes the treatment of ischemic stroke in the emergency department, patient satisfaction in the Emergency Department.

1988-1989             Effect of Alcohol Intoxication on the Orthostatic Tilt Test

                            Role: Co-Principal Investigator
The goal of this project was to determine the effect of acute alcohol intoxication on the validity of orthostatic tilt test to determine acute blood loss.

1989-1992             Traffic Related Injuries in Rural North Carolina
                            Governor’s Highway Safety Program
                            Co-Principal Investigator
The goal of this project was to reduce traffic related injuries in rural Eastern North Carolina by increasing seat belt use and assessing variables related to traffic related injuries.

1993                     Multi-Center Study to Evaluate the Safety and Effectiveness
                            Of PEG-superoxide Dismutase in Severe Closed Head Injury
                            Sterling Winthrop Pharmaceuticals
                            Co-Investigator
The goal of this project was to determine the potential protective affects of PEG-superoxide Dismutase in severe closed head injuries. Please note that I set up the project at East Carlolina University, and then turned it over to another investigator when subject enrollment began in 1993.
