Dr. Ferrario’s Satellite Webcast Program hosted by Merck & Co., Inc.

On March 6th and 7th, Dr. Carlos Ferrario participated in a unique international free standing symposium titled “Innovations in the Management of the Hypertensive Patient in 2008”. The program leveraged state-of-the-art satellite, internet, and telephone communications so that participants from all over Latin America and Asia could discuss the latest research in hypertension. Fr. Ferrario was joined by Dr. Richard Devereux from Weill Medical College of Cornell University in this innovative and informative program.

Dr. Ferrario presented from Winston-Salem, NC and Dr. Devereux presented from Times Square in Manhattan. Video of the two presenters was connected via satellite and then broadcast to the sites in Latin America and Asia via the Internet. Hundreds of participants congregated at 18 Latin America sites across 12 countries on the evening of March 6th to hear the presentations and ask questions via telephone. The event was repeated at 5:00 am the next morning with participants in China, Korea, and Philippines during their evening.

Drs. Ferrario and Devereux responded to numerous questions from the remote audience and the event will be available online for physicians who attended the event as well as those who could not attend the live event. The success of this event paves the way for future multi-site symposia.
