It’s All About Going Home

One of the main reasons the Section on Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine can cite so many positive outcomes is its unique approach to care giving.

Medical professionals and specialists in the Section believe that effective treatment isn't always about curing, but rather about helping our patients and families to cope.

Part of the Geriatrics treatment philosophy involves keeping our patients active. We listen to them carefully, observing all the little things that could easily become big barriers further down the road. The fact is that it would be devastating for a patient to finally return home, only to realize that he or she can't function or manage. That's the point at which the emotional pain is likely to resurface - leaving the patient helpless and hopeless again.

Through using the programs and services of the Section on Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine, our patients learn that they can really live their lives with a medical condition. People do, every day. All you have to know is 'how.'
