Diabetes

Diabetes is a serious problem affecting 16 million Americans, and is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States. Autoimmune, environmental and genetic factors each contribute to the onset of this devistating disease. The Center is dedicated to discovering the genetic factors that are involved specifically in type 2 diabetes or non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), which is the most common form of the disease. Below is a list of the research projects currently underway.

Current Research:

ID & Analysis of Families Segregating Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes

Mapping Genes for NIDDM Nephropathy in African Americans

ID of Diabetes Genes on Human Chromosome 20q12-q13.1

Epidemiology of Cardiovascular Disease in Diabetes
