For the Hearing Impaired
Sign Language Interpreters
In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, effective communication is provided for deaf and hard of hearing persons at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
At times, effective communication can only be provided by hiring the services of a professional sign language interpreter. Based on this act, an interpreter must who is qualified and trained in medical and legal terminology must be provided.
Patient Relations has contracted an agency to assist the Medical Center with this need: Communication Access Partners (CAPS). CAPS offers 24-hour emergency service and uses nationally certified and state-classified interpreters. Contact them by calling 336-993-4200 or 336-333-4575 (beeper).
In the event that a CAPS interpreter is not available, the Medical Center provides the names of several independent interpreters who may be available to assist you.
