Fluoroscopy | Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center (WFUBMC) requires credentialing for all medical doctors who use fluoroscopy unless they are Board Certificated in Radiology or Radiation Oncology. EH&S Radiation Safety runs the required credentialing program which instructs physicians and researchers on how to use fluoroscopy safely. In 1999, the Chief of Professional Services implemented this requirement based on a recommendation from the Medical Radiation Safety Committee. The program addresses the following: - operation of medical x-ray equipment, including operation,
- patient positioning,
- minimization of use of radiation,
- use of shielding devices,
- personnel radiation monitoring devices, and
- control factors that optimize image quality while reducing radiation levels.
The credentialing program is self-instructional and includes a multiple-choice examination (passing grade is >80). Once you are credentialed through this program there is no re-credentialing or refresher training required. WFUBMC does NOT accept a transfer of previous fluoroscopy credentialing from other institutions. Please e-mail Amy Nelson in Environmental Health & Safety or call 716-6084 to obtain the credentialing material and then schedule a time to take the proctored examination. |
