Parent Involvement Committee Minutes
11/02/05
In Attendance: Leslie Underwood, Lori Nifong, Linda Arcure, Lisa Wilkins, Heather Hall, Kelly O’Donnell, Shannon Kemp, Anh Young, Lindsay Holder, Stacy Peterson, Barbara Evans, Dalena Childress, April Gerard, Pam Hauser and Kris Kent.
Barbara Evans and Lindsay Holder are in charge of coordinating November Teacher Appreciation Event. The November Event is a Thanksgiving Luncheon, and it will be held on November 16, 2005. Pam stated that teachers took lunch form 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There are 46 teachers.
PIC has budgeted that $80-100 be spent on Teacher Appreciation events monthly. It was decided that PIC money would be spent to provide meat for luncheon in November, turkey and ham. Prices were researched at Heavenly Ham and Honey Baked Ham. Whole turkey is $40-50, and ham is $60. PIC decided to see if meats could be purchased from Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods,or Sam’s. Heather Hall was going to check with dietary as well. PIC will ask parents to bring in other foods for luncheon. It was suggested that a variety of methods (email, sign up in class, computer reminder, and request on daily sheets) be used to get parents to bring in foods. Volunteers are needed on the day of the luncheon to assist with getting food in the morning, setting up food, and cleaning up. It would be best if parents will provide food in disposable containers.
Discussion occurred regarding gift cards for Teacher Appreciation for December. PIC voted to not give gift cards for December as funding will be a problem in later years and fundraising will not continue with the exception of funds brought in through pictures. It was decided that December Teacher Appreciation will include a game for teachers to do and a drawing for poinsettias. Drawing will be held on December 15, 2005. Linda Arcure will coordinate this activity.
Next, PIC discussed Parent Event for this quarter. The purpose of parent events is to get parents together to meet each other. Events should occur at a variety of times and places so that as many parents can be given opportunity to participate. Heather Hall is going to coordinate December Parent Event. Event will occur on December 13, 2005, from 7:30-8:30 a.m. Breakfast foods and drinks will be provided upstairs and downstairs. Other suggestions for future events included Night Out at Children’s Museum or Picnic at the Park.
Next PTA meeting is November 9, 2005 @ 12:00 p.m. Next PIC meeting is December 7, 2005 @ 12:00 p.m.
