PIC Officers:

Shannon Kemp discussed the change in the PIC Officers. April Gerard will be stepping down as secretary and Lindsay Holder will be taking her place. Shannon Kemp, Delia Rhodes and Leslie Underwood remained PIC Officers. The PIC Officers will meet on September 14th to go over the budget.

PIC Members:

The group is still recruiting new PIC members, with hope that the flyers that have been distributed will generate more interest in the group. There were suggestions made to have a PIC luncheon for the parents, so they could get to know one another and to explore why more parents aren’t involved, such as a survey or questionnaire.

The group decided that room reps would be reinstated and we are currently recruiting parents to volunteer to be room reps. We would like to see parents that aren’t already on the PIC as room reps, in order to generate more parent involvement. Shannon Kemp is working on a room rep list and will be distributing that out later. Shannon is also going to be providing a template for room emails to all the room reps, this way each room will have a list of parent emails established for distributing PIC and CCLC information. There was also mention of having a room rep meeting or mingle, in order to get all the reps together.

PIC Monthly Teacher Appreciation Events:

September Teacher Event:

Stacy Peterson is in charge of this event, scheduled for the 20th of September. It will be an “Apple for the Teachers” event. The PIC will provide sliced apples and we are asking parents to volunteer to bring in different dips and sprinkles (such as caramel, cream cheese fruit dip, chocolate, sprinkles or nuts). Anyone interested in helping out should contact Stacy Peterson (speterso@wfubmc.edu).

October Teacher Event:

Dwayne McFerrin is in charge of this event, scheduled for the 25th of October. It will be a treat your teacher event. The PIC will provide Halloween decorations for the teacher lounge and treat bags for the teachers to fill. We are asking parents to volunteer to bring in different treats for the teachers to pick from. We would like to remind parents that some of the CCLC staff is diabetic, so sugar free candy and snacks would be appreciated. It was also suggested to bring in fruit as well. Anyone interested in helping out should contact Dwayne McFerrin (jdmcferrin@mindspring.com).

November Teacher Event:

November’s event will be a teacher luncheon set for the 16th of November. This will require two people to organize. Right now this event hasn’t been assigned to anyone, giving any new members of the PIC the chance to volunteer. The PIC will be in charge of providing the meats. Last year the PIC provided a ham and a turkey. This year it was suggested to increase the meats to 2 apiece allowing all the staff plenty to choose from. We are asking the parents to volunteer to bring side dishes. The organizers of this event will be decided on next meeting.

PIC Quarterly Parent Event:

The PIC decided to think over the parent event and revisit it at the next meeting.

PIC Budget:

Leslie Underwood reviewed the PIC budget. The current bank balance is $6,358.83. The PIC is still weighing different options for the cash overhead that we have. It was suggested that we set up a display that listed the different options and their prices, and let the parents decide what the money should be used for. Some of the suggestions made to spend the money on included, a new overhead structure for the infant pod area (with CCLC handling this), classroom murals to make each classroom unique (to be done when the classroom renovations begin), or a set cash amount to CCLC for new playground equipment (to be done when the playground is updated).

The PIC is planning on keeping at least a year’s worth of income in the account. With this being said, the only PIC income will be coming from the Crawford Picture sales which should cover the monthly teacher events and the quarterly parent events. It was also suggested that the PIC increase the quarterly parent events to $50. The upcoming school year’s budget should be decided on by October’s meeting.

PIC’s monthly meetings have been changed to the first THURSDAY of each month. Next PIC meeting will be Thursday, October 5th at 12 noon.
