PIC Minutes

August 2, 2006

Review of PIC Budget

Leslie Underwood reviewed the PIC budget (see attached).  Budgeted expenses are under budget and budgeted income is above budget.  The current bank balance is $8,758.34.

August Teacher Event

Barbara Evans is in charge of this event.  The date is August 17, 2006 from 11 to 1.  Barbara sent an email requesting volunteers to staff the lemonade stand and bring melon and drinks (see attached).  Contact Barbara if you are interested in helping.

September Teacher Event

Pam Hauser will begin getting the teacher school supply wish lists.  The PIC will try to get 1 or 2 items off each list for each classroom.

August Parent Event

The parent event is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, August 27 at the Winston-Salem Warthogs game.  It’s Wilco Hess Family Day.  The game starts at 5 pm.  The parent events are designed to get parents together in a social setting.  Each family is responsible for buying individual tickets.  Look for more information to follow.

New School Year Issues

The group discussed ideas for growing PIC membership and improving communication with parents.  With the new school year starting at the end of the month, the group discussed getting the center-wide email up and running; adding a blurb about the PIC to the monthly family newsletter; and reinstating the room reps.  The group also discussed nomination and installation of new officers.  Some of the current officers are willing to serve again if no one new wants to serve.  Nominations will be taken at the next meeting to allow new parents the opportunity to attend.  During the open houses (8/21/06 for the first floor rooms and 8/24/06 for the second floor rooms), an info flyer will introduce new families to the PIC.  Discussion about the October teacher event and next school year’s PIC budget were tabled until the next meeting.

Security Guards

Lara Holder reported the results of the security guard poll: 54% in favor of using PIC/PTA funds to pay for security service through 6/30/2007; 41% in favor of paying individually; and 5% expressed no preference.  The PIC’s one-quarter portion of the cost is approximately $2,300.

Next PIC meeting will be Wednesday, September 6 at 12 noon.
