PIC Meeting Minutes 3/1/06
8 PIC members and Kris Kent in attendance
Topics of discussion:
The February teacher appreciation event was a big success. The teachers were very excited about the Valentine goodie bags.
The March teacher appreciation event will be a “Pot-o-Gold” grab bag event. Stacey Peterson and Lindsay Holder are building the pot-o-gold for the lobby. We are asking parents to donate small, inexpensive “treat” items that will fit inside brown paper lunch bags. These treats will be sealed inside the bags and on St. Patty’s Day, March 17th, the teachers will each grab a bag in the hopes of being the luckiest and drawing the $25 gift certificate to Panera Bread. Shannon Kemp is the contact person for this event and can be reached at shdavis@wfubmc.edu or 716-9232. She will place a box in the front lobby where parents can drop off the grab bag items. She will also be passing out flyers to the teachers so that they know when/how to pick their grab bags. Please spread the word that we are collecting treats for this event.
The Parent quarterly event will take place on March 8th at 4:00 pm in front of the center. The theme is “March Madnesss”. Shannon Kemp will be setting up a basketball goal and basketballs so that parents can drop by and “shoot the hoop” with other parents. Linda Arcure will be putting up flyers around the center for this event. Heather Hall will be furnishing cookies and a table will be set up outside that afternoon. Kris Kent will put a reminder to the parents on the computer message board for Monday March 6th. Please pass the word to your classrooms that this event will be taking place.
The April teacher appreciation event will be a “guess the jellybeans” game with a prize for the winner who guesses closest. Anh Young will be the contact person for this event and can be reached at anhyoung@wfubmc.edu. The grand prize has yet to be determined.
The May teacher appreciation event will be “May flowers” for our teachers. Stacey Peterson is the contact person for this event and can be reached at speterso@wfubmc.edu. She will purchase a flower for each teacher. A card will be attached and one room representative from each class will be in charge of having the children sign or have a poem, etc. That room representative will be in charge of delivering the flowers on the designated day. If you are interested in being in charge of your room (or know someone who might!), please let Stacey know.
The June teacher appreciation event will be a “Beat the Heat” ice cream/smoothie/icee event. No contact person has been named yet. There was lots of brainstorming and this will need followup discussion at the April PIC meeting.
The PIC founders suggested changing the format of the graduation picnic, which follows the graduation ceremony. Graduation will take place on June 16th at 9:30 in Babcock auditorium. Dalena Childress, Linda Arcure, and Cathy James will be meeting to discuss options for the after-graduation celebration. Some ideas included Tanglewood Park, or pizza and ice cream on the covered porch. The PIC/PTA will continue to fund a portion of this event, and exact amounts will be discussed as plans progress.
The Spring/Summer parent quarterly event will be the annual end-of-the-year picnic. This is typically held at Bolton Park in June. The PIC founders will be meeting to discuss planning and budget for this event and it will be discussed further at the April PIC meeting. Ideas included changing the food items at the picnic, holding the event at the Bolton Park pool or Tanglewood pool.
