Meet our Providers

 Franklin Tolbert, MD

Dr. Tolbert has provided health care in the town of Advance since 1991. He is board certified in family medicine.  Prior to medical school he completed his bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology at Clinch Valley of the University of Virginia in Wise, Virginia.  He continued his medical training receiving his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia.

Dr. Tolbert completed his family medicine internship and residency at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC.

Dr. Tolbert enjoys teaching and sharing his medical skills; therefore, you may see a medical student, physician assistant student, or resident shadowing him while he is seeing patients. Dr. Tolbert is an avid bluegrass music lover.

When not in the office you may find him listening to blue grass music at the annual “Merle Fest” festival or playing his own guitar. He also enjoys reading and spending time with his two grown sons

 Laura Bauer, PA-C

Laura is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).  She earned her bachelor of science degree in Biochemistry from Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee and continued her studies at Duke University in Durham, NC where she received her Master of Health Sciences and completed her education and training in their Physician Assistant program.

Laura has worked as a Nutrition Assistant assisting clients with customized diets and exercise regiments to improve their health and increase function in their daily living.

Laura became a physician assistant specializing in family practice because she enjoys caring for patients of all ages and developing a long-term relationship with the families.  She also has a special interest in orthopedics. She believes that it is important to take time to listen to her patients and help them make informed decisions about their health care choices.

Outside of the office she enjoys spending time with her husband who is attending law school at Wake Forest University.  She also enjoys volunteering for youth sports.

 Ryan Vann, PA-C

Ryan is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). He earned a bachelor of science degree in Biology and a bachelor of science degree in Clinical Laboratory Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After working as a Medical Technologist for two years, he continued his studies obtaining a Master of Health Sciences from the Physician Assistant program at Duke University in Durham, NC.

Ryan enjoys caring for patients of all ages and has special interest in young children and adolescents.  He enjoys women’s health, geriatrics, and routine health screenings and health maintenance. He believes that the patient and health care provider should work as a team making decisions to stay or get healthy. It is his goal to listen and support his patients in their right to have control over their own healthcare.

When not in the office Ryan and his wife, both avid UNC fans, enjoy attending UNC football and basketball games.  He also enjoys reading, attending and being involved in his church, and working out.
