Study to Identify Heart Injury Caused by Cancer Treatment

What we are studying

The purpose of this research study is to determine if the results of a cardiac (heart) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test can identify heart injury caused by cancer treatment.

  • American Indian or Alaska Native
  • Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander
  • Other
• All Ethnicities
• Ages 16 - 40

Eligibility Criteria

• Group A:
  • Adolescent or young adult survivor of childhood cancer
• Group B:
  • Adolescent or young adult who has never been diagnosed with cancer (healthy volunteers)
• Group C:
  • Between the ages of 10 and 25 and newly diagnosed with cancer and not yet undergone chemotherapy

What is involved

• MRI scan of the heart (no radiation is used)
• A brief questionnaire
• Groups A & B = 1 blood draw
• Group C = no blood draw

Compensation:

Groups A & B will receive $40 for a 1 time visit and Group C will receive $30 each for 3 visits.
