Research

The Medical Center is recognized throughout the Piedmont and western North Carolina as the place to seek treatment for serious illness or injury. It also is known that Wake Forest University School of Medicine is training future doctors alongside those who provide that care.

What may be the least understood dimension of what we do—research—is really the driving force, and the distinguishing trait, of an academic medical center.

That research takes many forms—from basic science laboratories to clinical trials of new drugs to population studies that contribute to health policy debate and identify new subjects for further investigation.

The mission of the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs is to raise private financial support for the Medical Center to enhance patient care, health education, and biomedical research.

You may know already a specific disease or health problem for which you would like to support ongoing research. You may just be innately curious and eager to learn about opportunities to help researchers at the Medical Center.

Whether the problem is cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis or a host of other human ailments, the key to solving the riddle behind it is research. The path to scientific discovery is rarely straight, but it is a journey the Medical Center is committed to taking. It is why we need your support in tandem with other resources like the National Institutes of Health and other governmental agencies, corporations, and foundations.

You can make a difference. A gift to help fund research is a creative gift, one that invests in the future and new knowledge with the potential to change lives.
