After he finished training in gastroenterology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Wallace C. Wu, M.D., applied for a job at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Wake Forest was a relatively small school and Wu was impressed that the dean, the head of surgery, and the chief financial officer interviewed him. Soon thereafter he joined the faculty and 27 years later has announced his retirement. Dr. Wu and his wife, Mona, have made a gift to establish the Wallace and Mona Wu Chair in Internal Medicine.
"The School gave a lot to me and I just felt it was time to give something back," he said.
"Dr. Wu has demonstrated his commitment to the Medical Center in numerous ways throughout his career," said Richard H. Dean, M.D., director of the Medical Center and senior vice president for health affairs of Wake Forest University. "This newest chapter in his selfless devotion to the School of Medicine and its future is profound. The magnitude of his commitment is exemplary among our faculty, both active and retired. I am deeply grateful to a highly respected colleague for this generous gift."
