Alumna Dr. Gloria Graham '61, part-time faculty member in the Department of Dermatology and her husband, Dr. James H. Graham, are both internationally recognized for their pioneering work in the field. They also share an interest in strengthening the dermatology education resources at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
Dr. Gloria Graham had always wanted to do something to honor the memory of her parents. She said, "Both of my parents just gave so much of themselves to this area." Her father, Dr. James Meigs Flippin, a physician in Pilot Mountain, NC, was considered the skin doctor of western North Carolina and her mother worked as his nurse.
In memory of Dr. and Mrs. Flippin, the Drs. Graham made a gift of $50,000 to construct the James Meigs Flippin, M.D. and Ida Mae Flippin Dermatology Conference Room, which was dedicated at a ceremony held on September 29, 2000.
Their gift will also fund the James H. Graham, M.D. and Gloria F. Graham, M.D. Dermatopathology Slide Library to house Dr. James Graham's extensive collection of over 100,000 projection slides he has donated to the School of Medicine. The product of his 50 years of teaching and lecturing around the world, the unique collection will be invaluable to students and faculty. |
