Bob Gibbons
Lenoir, NC
Bob Gibbons was in his mid-70s and enjoying retirement when his heart problem began. "I got to where I couldn't walk more than a few feet without stopping to rest." Eventually, he had double bypass surgery at the Medical Center. "It's worked like a miracle," he said. "I can walk now, play golf, garden. I believe if I hadn't had the operation, I wouldn't be here today."
The Gibbons are indebted to cardiologist Dr. Earl Watts for his expert diagnosis and individualized attention throughout. "Dr. Watts is one of the finest doctors I've ever known," said Mrs. Gibbons. "He takes time and explains things and I appreciate that."
Mr. Gibbons also had prostate surgery, another specialty in which the Medical Center excels. Now the former mayor of Lenoir enjoys his weekly meetings at the Supreme Restaurant with a bunch of friends, manages rental property in partnership with his sons, and generally feels like "a new fellow." "It seems impossible," he said of his surgery and recovery, "but they did it. It is remarkable what they can do."
