Sandra Maree Ouellette Nurse Anesthesia Scholarship Fund
After 35 years as director of the Nurse Anesthesia Program, the students and alumni have become family for Sandra Maree Ouellette ’69. She’ll miss them the most when she retires in 2005 to continue her work as president of the International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists (IFNA). “Throughout my career, the students and alumni have stimulated me to reach for the stars, keep abreast of changes in the field and strive for quality in clinical education,” she said.
To honor Sandy for her dedicated service and to support the future of education at our Nurse Anesthesia Program, the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs is working to establish the Sandra Maree Ouellette Nurse Anesthesia Scholarship Fund at North Carolina Baptist Hospital with a $50,000 fundraising goal to endow the scholarship. The purpose of the Fund is to provide a scholarship or scholarships to nurse anesthesia students at the Hospital. Scholarships will be awarded based upon financial need, academic ability, demonstrated leadership, and special talents in accordance with the program’s established policies and procedures, which may be modified from time to time. A scholarship may be renewed for succeeding years to a student who demonstrates continuing ability and need.
Given her influence and the strength of the legacy she helped to build, this is a unique opportunity for you to show your appreciation for an extraordinary director and to help the Nurse Anesthesia Program continue to flourish by supporting Nurse Anesthesia student scholarships.
At NCBH, Sandy reached many personal milestones and led the program to benchmark achievements including: the beginning of the graduate program in collaboration with the UNCG School of Nursing 1988; the expansion of the clinical education base to 16 full-time clinical sites; the growth of the teaching staff to over 40 faculty in 2000; the receipt of maximum accreditation on all reviews; and the continuation of a 100 percent pass rate on the Certification Examination.
“The program’s long history and reputation for graduating highly qualified professionals is our signature and the driving philosophy has always been to keep the standard high and lay an educational foundation for life-long education and practice,” Ouellette said.
