Medical Technology Program
Program Description

The Medical Technology Program was established in 1942 as one of the professional schools of North Carolina Baptist Hospitals and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Since that time, it has graduated more than 750 medical technologists who are serving in medical laboratories throughout the country. The program provides the clinical educational component of a coordinated four-year curriculum in medical technology through affiliations with 11 academic institutions.

In regularly scheduled lectures and laboratory sessions, students learn basic principles and procedures in each of the following areas: Hematology, Coagulation, Body Fluid Analysis, Clinical Chemistry, Blood Banking, Immunology, Serology, Microbiology, Blood Collection and Laboratory Management and Education.

Job opportunities for medical technologists exist in hospitals, reference laboratories, clinics, businesses and industries. Medical technology knowledge and experience also provide an excellent background for pursuing a degree in medicine or an advanced degree in any biological discipline.
