Greetings!

This is an exciting time at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. In the past year, we have seen an increase in class size, the reorganization of the Medical Center into a focused organization to be headed by a single CEO overseeing both WFUSM and NCBH, and the establishment of a new Translational Science Institute at the Medical Center.

I am happy to be a part of these changing times and encourage all of you to follow these new developments. The leadership team during this reorganization has been targeting many issues, including ensuring a successful site visit by the Liaison Committee for Medical Education. All of these efforts will make our Medical School that much stronger.

Because of the extremely high student debt, the Medical Alumni Association continues to concentrate on increased scholarship support. It is important that we continue the success we have generated to meet this challenge.

While financial contributions have historically been the primary channel for alumni to show support, we are always looking for ways to engage alumni through programs, contact with students and faculty, social events, etc. If you have an innovative idea for building upon the MAA's offerings, please contact me or email Terri Welfare, the Director of Alumni Affairs, at twelfare@wfubmc.edu.

Let’s not rest on our past successes. I challenge you to increase your giving this year. If you did not participate last year, please consider sending in a donation of any size to illustrate the generalized support we, as alumni, feel for the School that launched our careers.

Thanks for your consideration and all of your support.

Sincerely,

Leon F. Woodruff Jr., MD ‘72
