Graduate School of Arts and Sciences
Program Description:

On the Bowman Gray and associated campuses of the School of Medicine, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences offers PhD programs in 10 disciplines within the biomedical sciences and master of science programs in three areas.

The Wake Forest University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences plays a central role in the educational mission of Wake Forest University.  As the boundaries between traditional disciplines have become more diffuse, the Graduate School has responded with the development of new interdisciplinary graduate programs that cross departmental, school and campus lines.  Programs leading to master's and PhD degrees are offered through Graduate Schhool.  A combined MD/PhD program is offered in collaboration with the School of Medicine, a combined PhD/MBA program is available with the Babcock Graduate School Of Management, and the Master of Science in Accountancy is offered in collaboration with the Wayne Calloway School of Business and Accountancy.  Also, Wake Forest University has teamed up with Virginia Tech to form the "Virginia Tech-Wake Forest University School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences"(SBES).

The Graduate School has a faculty of more than 500. Outstanding opportunities for research collaborations with these nationally and internationally recognized individuals provide the backbone of each graduate program.

More than 700 students pursue graduate degrees through the Graduate School with more than 300 enrolled in the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program. Graduates from the program obtain positions in many fields, including academe, industry and government.

Mission Statement:

The Graduate School, operating within the principles of Wake Forest University, is a community of faculty and advanced students dedicated to teaching, research and productive scholarship. Through graduate programs in the arts and sciences and the basic medical sciences, an effort is made to expand the frontiers of knowledge and to keep abreast of man's understanding of the rapidly changing human environment. As a significant feature of the educational process, students are encouraged to develop initiative, resourcefulness and responsibility required of those who become intellectual leaders in their chosen fields of endeavor.
