Helicopter
* Twin-engine Bell 412, with a normal cruising speed of 145 mph and equipped with instrument flight capability and weather radar
* Flown by two pilots with Airline Transport Pilot ratings
* Medical interior with capacity of four patients and four medical crew members
Equipment
* Zoll monitor/defibrillator with noninvasive pacing
* Propaq monitors with CO2, hemodynamic, and temperature monitoring capabilities
* Ivac three channel IV pumps
* Bird Avain ventilator
* Intra-aortic balloon pump capability
Crew Configuration
* Two Registered Nurses with a minimum of five years critical care experience
* Nurses maintain all current advanced life support certifications as well as CCRN and CEN credentials
Service Area
* 150 miles from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center including areas of North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia
* Trauma victims are transported directly from accident scenes the Level One Trauma Center
Transport Criteria
* Critically ill adult, pediatric, or neonatal patients
* Trauma patients
* Hemodynamically unstable medical or surgical patients
* Patients with indwelling monitoring devices
* Pulmonary patients with mechanical ventilation
* Cardiac patients during or post thrombolytic therapy

* Flights coordinated by the Emergency Department attending physician
