Ambulance

* International chassis with a 466 turbo diesel engine and an oversized box configured for one adult or pediatric patient

Equipment

* Bird Avian Ventilator with oxygen/air mixer

* Zoll monitor/defibrillator with noninvasive pacing

* Propac monitor with CO2, hemodynamic, and temperature monitoring capabilities

* Two Ivac three channel IV pumps

* Two refrigerators for medications and patient comfort items

* Intra-aortic balloon pump capabilities

* I-STAT blood analyzer

Transport Team

* Two experienced critical care transport nurses who meet the same qualifications as AirCare flight nurses

* Safe, experienced drivers certified as Emergency Medical Technicians

Transport Criteria

* Critically ill adult and pediatric patients

* Trauma patients

* Hemodynamically unstable medical or surgical patients

* Patients with indwelling monitoring devices

* Pulmonary patients requiring mechanical ventilation

* Cardiac patients during and post thrombolytic therapy

Service Area

* 100 mile radius from WFUBMC

* Will also transfer patients from referring facility to Forsyth Medical Center

Activation

* Transferring physician or registered nurse may contact AirCare dispatch at 1-800-336-6224 or           the Physician's Access Line (PAL) at 1-800-277-7654

Hours of Operation

* Currently 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; decision to add night team will be based on demand
